Wave curtain vs. pleated curtain

Not sure what style of curtain you want to decorate with? Read more about our different types of curtains below to see which style is right for you.

Wave curtains

With a wave curtain, you get a beautifully undulating shape on the curtain that gives a modern and sophisticated look. The best way to achieve evenly spaced waves is to use a curtain track with gliding points attached to a cord. When you pull out the curtain, the cord keeps an even distance between the waves. The curtain is easily attached to the glide points with a small hook on the back of the curtain. If you choose wave curtains for a curtain rod instead, you get a slightly more classic look. The curtain is then hung in the loop that sits on the curtain ring. Wave curtains generally require more fabric than a pleated curtain and require more space for the depth of the curtain, follow our measurement guide to easily calculate how wide curtains you need. The right type of hook, depending on your preferred choice of suspension, is already placed at the right distance when your curtain is delivered to you. What's more, the hooks are always included in the price when you buy curtains from Veolin.

Pleated curtains

Pleated curtains are a perfect choice if you want a more classic look and can be hung on a curtain track as well as on a curtain rod. The pleats are created by a curtain hook that is attached to the tape on the back of the top edge of the curtain and which pulls the fabric together into even pleats. If you have a track that is attached to the ceiling or wall, use a low-set curtain hook. This raises the top edge of the curtain and then also hides the curtain rail. If you have a curtain pole, use a high-set hook instead, which allows the curtain to hang just below the curtain rings. The right type of hook, depending on your desired choice of suspension, is already placed at the right distance when your curtain is delivered to you. In addition, the hooks are always included in the price when you buy curtains from Veolin.

Depending on the look you want to create, you can choose curtains that are either floating or trailing. Floating curtains create a light, airy impression and allow the curtain’s natural drape to fall beautifully. They are also easier to keep clean, since they hang just above the floor. Trailing curtains, on the other hand, can create a calmer, more relaxed impression and work especially well in spaces such as bedrooms, where there are often more textiles and a softer atmosphere. Trailing curtains are also a practical choice in older homes, where uneven floors can make curtains appear different in length. That is why we always recommend measuring in several places from the floor to the suspension point, whatever style you choose. For Wave curtains, we recommend only a floating style so the curtain’s characteristic waves hang evenly from ceiling to floor. Pleated curtains, on the other hand, which are the most common type of curtain, can be chosen in either a floating or trailing style. Take a look at our image gallery for inspiration.
